Who is a sewage engineer?

The sewage-engineering field in the country is an important field; it’s significant for many areas such as the preparation of land for construction and the maintenance of urban infrastructure and even helps in economic relief of the costs of construction infrastructure and urban planning. Today in Israel, there is still a shortage of many sewage engineers in the market.

What is the work of a sewage engineer?

A sewage engineer knows how to analyze a field and plan complex systems, to operate a plan for taking care of effluents, a thing that at the end of the day raises the residents’ living standard.
What is the meaning of this? An engineer who plans the infrastructures correctly will improve and optimize the municipality’s work for the resident and taking care of infrastructures. Taking care of effluent and proper storage of them, making sure there are no faults in the systems, is an important work that prevents an environmental pollution and even creates more ecological, economical in electricity and energy systems.

An experienced sewage engineer is familiar with the guidelines for taking care of effluent and will bring out the proper plans for receiving the permits from the Israel Lands Authority and the planning director and by doing so will quicken the municipal working processes. Sewage and water engineers who are familiar with the “Available Licensing” system – the municipal digital system, will quickly advance the municipal or corporate permits.

The training of a sewage engineer is first and foremost a training as an engineer – he is proficient in the fields of physics, mathematics, biology and chemistry, and has extensive knowledge in hydraulics, microbiology and biotechnology. He is a water engineer specializing in the field of sewage. There are several institutions in the country that specialize in the water engineering/environmental engineering field, and the main one among them is the Technion in Haifa.

Sewage engineers as environmentalists

Engineers sketch, analyze and plan sewage canal systems within the municipal and public underground system and prevent hazards that harm the quality of daily life of the residents. This can cause widespread environmental hazards that can lead to pollution of the sea and streams and damage water sources in nature, including groundwater. Engineers find flexible solutions for adapting systems to different data, for example: designing a system that takes into account rainwater drainage or designing that recognizes different pollutants.

the more knowledge and experience the sewer engineer has about more complex systems with more information about sewer infrastructures, such as GIS based systems, beyond the drawing software and control in hydraulic design tools, the higher his perspective and analytical ability and so he can plan in a better way the sewage, water and canal engineering of the corporation or municipality.

Sewage engineering is a role that takes care of preserving the environment, and the quality of life of the residents. This is a role that optimizes the activities for the municipality, corporation or council and even manages to create energy savings, hence its importance.

Water and sewage infrastructures – corporations

Today in the country, there are more than 50 water corporations, which work in cities and councils.
